PRIVATE CLIENT
The role of the private client department may cover a wide range of tax and legal issues, and when appropriate it is able to draw upon the expertise of other departments within the firm.

A major aspect of the department’s work involves safeguarding the wealth or assets of private clients, and ensuring that those assets are passed on in accordance with the client’s wishes.
The department has been designed to work closely with accountants and financial advisers, and typically handles matters such as conveyancing, wills and probate, powers of attorney, inheritance tax, and trusts.
A private client may or may not be comfortably off, but will certainly be discerning when it comes to quality of service. Attention is personal, time is always available, and the legal approach is painstaking and thorough – but never tiresome. The private client will often require regular access to legal advice – sometimes on a daily basis.
Hatch Brenner’s Alan Dobbins enjoys a good reputation, with clients expressing ‘no reservations’, and one adding: ‘He is the most outstanding lawyer that I have ever worked with.’ Recent work includes acting for a US-based client purchasing property in Norfolk.’ – The Legal 500
